Our Story

History:
The PPI Project APPLE program was established through StarCare Specialty Health System, formerly Lubbock Regional MHMR in September 2008. Project APPLE provides community-based, gender specific outreach and intervention services for pregnant and postpartum adult and adolescent women at risk for, or with substance use/abuse problems.

Mission:
The mission of Project APPLE is to assist in creating a healthy lifestyle for all participants. The program coordinates services with other agencies to promote the health and well-being of the individual and family.

Services Provided by PPI:
We provide evidence based parenting education to schools, agencies and on an individual basis. We use the Nurturing Parenting curriculum. We also help individuals find resources in the community such as housing, transportation, day care, food and clothing. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, or if you or your child is in need of help.

  • Case management to identify the need for medical, educational, mental health, housing, and other necessities.
  • Education, including but not limited to, reproductive health, parenting, fetal & child development, HIV and STD’s, and nurturing parenting values curriculum.
  • Substance abuse screening and assessment to identify issues related to alcohol and drugs.
  • Referrals to cooperating agencies for help with prenatal-postpartum needs, counseling, employment, clothing, and additional needs.
  • Alternative activities are offered to participants and their family members – including picnics, games, arts and crafts, and trips to museums and libraries – that are focused on helping families address communication, family roles, and stress management, while supporting family relationships.
